This Blu-ray Player looks good on paper but our copy was a major disappointment. It is my impression that Yamaha was a little slow to the Blu-ray player market. I had hoped for better. Now I question their commitment to Blu-ray and their firmware support in general. It is quite poor. I expected the player to measure up equally to the other high end Yamaha products we own. Not true. Despite installing the available firmware (6 months old) the player could not deliver a pleasing picture. Playing Avatar, the image was filled with pixalization such that we have never seen. While the movie kept playing the bars of pixals were jsut plain terrible. Other discs were a disappointment as well. The player was returned and, as expected, Amazon.com customer service was superb. We purchased an Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray Player instead and could not be happier. Everything about that player is awesome. Live and learn. Yamaha needs to take notice!

Energy EF-500 Floorstanding Loudspeakers - Pair (Black) Review

I've had these Energy EF-500 speakers for about 7 months and absolutely LOVE them! They are a key feature of our entertainment system in our large (20ft x 28ft) family room, and they fill the room with high quality sound with NO problem at all. They reproduce crisp highs, rich mids, and punchy lows; however, they are not intended for deep bass, so I have them pared with an Onkyo 10" powered sub. A first-impression, tell-tale sign of most high-end speakers is that they sound 'tight' at first and require a 'break-in period' to deliver their full spectrum of sound (cheep speakers typically sound as good as they're going to get when first hooked up). When I turned on my receiver after hooking them up, these EF-500s indeed sounded very tight. I was initially doubtful that these would sound much better after the break-in period, but after several days of use they loosened up and blew us away.

My son-in-law has a similar setup in their home with Klipsch Synergy F-20s (similar-ish design), and these Energy EF-500s sound just as good (if not better). Not surprising if you consider that Klipsch Group is the parent company for Energy speakers...

Accell K078C-002B UltraAV 1x2 HDMI 1.3 Splitter Review

I bought 2 of these at the same time. After 8 months, the output on one of them died. I called Accell Cables and talked to their customer service person, Louisa Hwang. She insisted that it worked and told me that my cables were the problem. She had me do 12 configurations using it and different cables, 2 different DVD players and 2 different TVs. Clearly, this was an attempt to make it so difficult I would just go away. It took me all day to rewire my systems to test this in all the combinations required by Accell but I did it and verified that the one port just doesn't work. I repeated the same tests with the other Accell splitter and it worked perfectly every time. Obviously, the one splitter is defective. I reported this to Louisa Hwang and she sent me a form to fill out to get an RMA number, I did it and got an RMA number. I shipped it back to them and a two weeks later received a shipment from Accell. Inside was the very same splitter I shipped them without any explanation other than the words "passed all test parameters" on the shipping invoice. I plugged it into my system and it didn't work, of course, because it's broken. It fails 100% of the time for me. It would have been impossible for them to test this even once and not see that it's broken.

They are refusing to replace it. What do they think I'm doing? Running a scam where I order splitters, pay to send a working one back just to get a replacement? Do they think I have some crazy setup that no one else in the world has? I have two Accell splitters and one works fine in the very same setup. Clearly, one doesn't work but they refuse to stand by their product.

Terrible customer service, terrible product, terrible company.
