Since the new Leica M has through the lens focusing options it becomes interesting to use non Leica lenses. Rangefinder focusing only works, of course, with Leica type lenses. This device is not helpful on M9 and older Leicas that lack through the lens focusing. Older Nikon lenses have manual control rings for the aperture built into the lens. But a lot of the newer lenses depend on a mechanical coupling to the camera to control the aperture. This adapter, unlike competitive adapters, couples to the mechanical aperture adjusting tab and allows adjustment of the aperture when using a newer Nikon lens. The aperture can be adjusted from wide open to most closed, but w/o an F numbers scale. However, lack of scale is not a big problem since you can see what is going on through the lens. I prefer using the electronic rangefinder with the Leica M over the back screen. One reason for using this is to get cheaper Nikon lenses or long lenses that don't work in the rangefinder environment.
