I have a very pricey softbox (a Photoflex Stardome 1000w) and wanted to add some additional lighting instead of just having the one source. I will admit I wanted to go with something cheaper just for some fill, and the price was right on these. I bought two of them as a matter of fact. They provide excellent lighting, with a warmer temperature than that of flash photography. The nice extra that they don't mention is it comes with a reflector hood too. At least the two I purchased did, so I am working under the assumption that they are included. Why it's not mentioned anywhere is a mystery (is this just so common it's expected? I don't know I just got into photography a while ago.) This makes it easy to switch from softlight from the boxes to a more intense and sharp light for background or creating edges on your subjects.

The stands themselves are a little flimsy, especially when you fully extend them. They feel as if they'll fall over if you bump them a bit. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, but man for less than 200 you get a softbox, lamp, stand and reflector hood. How the heck can you really complain, especially when it's pretty decent construction-wise? Compared to my Photoflex you can see where the cost saving measures were implemented: the softbox material is thinner, the diffuse front is thinner, the stand is nowhere near as sturdy, and the actual lamp holder doesn't need as much machining to disperse heat (the Photoflex comes with a halogen light which creates way more heat.) But as I mentioned, the price makes this item well worth the purchase, and the resulting images you capture won't complain about a weak stand.
