PYLE-PRO PPHP150A - 15'' 1200 Watt Powered 2 Way Full Range Loud Speaker System Review

I've had a pair of these for 10 months now, using in mobile DJ and mobile cinema applications. Acceptable - not great - sound. Pretty good power output - they will go loud! I also have a pair of Mackie THUMP TH15As - they certainly sound more refined and overall better than these Pyles, with deeper bass and clearer highs, but at a third lower price I would have to say the Pyles are a decent buy. There is fabulous flexibility on the interface of these Pyles - 2 line inputs, each with XLR and 1/4" jacks, switchable for line or mic, plus a third line input with RCA jacks, and XLR or 1/4inch loop through outputs. Added to this is separate volume controls for each input, a separate overall gain control, and separate base and treble controls. The claims of Pyle in the pubilshed spec for the unit (ie 1200 watts, 40Hz to 20Khz at -3db etc) are beyond a 'stretch' to outright ludicrous, being clearly nowhere near such high-end performance. And don't expect responsiveness from Pyle to emailed customer queries etc. I suppose this is part of the reason for the low price but really, they should do better. The other downside is that the unit is relatively heavy at 60lbs, compared with the Mackies at 36lbs. Still, this box will do a very decent job for you in PA-type applications, even if you are a discerning and demanding sound man as I am. My most recent occassion using them was for an outdoor movie night at a church, in a sizeable parking lot area, and comments from the audience were that the sound was like being in a cinema.

Update on 2 Mar 2012 - Re Pyle Customer Service, they seemd to have contracted a third party customer service entity, and are doing much better these days. A few weeks ago I emailed advising of a blown tweeter in my PPHP1294A powered 12" speaker cabinet and broken boom connector bracket on my PMKS33 mic stand. Based on past experience, I did this just as due process, I was not expecting a response. To my pleasant surprise, they emailed back next day (not from a pyle.com address) and sent out replacement parts a week later, without charge!
