Siamod 45295 Carugetto Napa Cashmere Leather Wheeled Detachable Laptop Case (Black) Review

I ordered this to replace my former rolling laptop bag (black, McKlein Chicago series) that I had used for over 5 years. On the old bag, the telescoping handle had finally quit telescoping, plus I was tired of black. Features I particularly wanted included good quality materials, smooth quiet wheels, detachable wheel base, must fit 17" laptop, and TALL telescoping handle (pet peeve of mine is having to slouch to reach the handle of the case once it's tipped on its wheels).

My finalists were this Siamod model, another Siamod case (the Ceresola Vernazza model), and the McKlein West Town 15704 S series. Final choice came down to aesthetics, so I don't think you can go wrong with any of those. This is called "cognac," which is a gorgeous soft warm brown color. It has fewer compartments than my old McKlein case did, but that's OK since it's also lighter and less bulky (ain't no WAY that old one could fit in an overhead airplane bin....it usually had to be gate-checked). I think it will fit under the seat in front of me on most planes, but that wasn't a specific goal, and I don't mind gate-checking if necessary.

Only negative for me: you need TWO hands to completely lower the telescoping handle. With one hand, you can lower it one notch (by pressing down with your thumb while pushing the handle down), but then it stops. To lower it down any further, you have to press a little silver button in, located way down on the handle near the case itself, AND simultaneously push down on the handle. However, I expect to get used to that, and if I need to pick up the case and carry it, I can do so with the handle lowered only that one notch...so it'll probably be fine. It's just different from what I'm used to.

Other caveat: while the size is fine for me (will fit my 17" laptop, plus power cord, mouse, notepad, pens, etc.), it holds a lot less than my old case did. In addition to the laptop, I can only fit about five case files in it comfortably (compared to 10-15 files in my old case). So if you are looking for something like a total mobile office, this might be too small.
