First of all, this TV console is a wide, feature rich, and solid piece of furniture to house TV, and numerous components. If chosen, some components can be 'hidden' behind the sliding door, and/or out of main view.

To prepare before purchase, I would measure your deepest and widest components. For us, this was the receiver, for example. The cabinet is very sleek and straight-edged, with black color and chrome finishes, which 'pop' on the black nicely. The components blend into the background of the cabinet, making them less pronounced and leaving that area seamless in appearance. As an example we have a TV, Cable Box, Roku, HDMI Switcher, Monster Power Center, Receiver, HD DVD Player, Blu-ray Player, HD DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Player, etc, and all items found a home in this unit, which was a welcomed relief. In order to accommodate the extra space needed to avoid overheating, we chose to not assemble 2 drawers, and include the other 2 drawers, so that we had enough space. Before we obtained this unit, the Roku and Switcher and External HD Drive for Cable Box, were sitting next to the TV, and constantly falling over, or getting tangled. This cabinet provided an organized solution to eliminate the need to place components in neighboring bookshelves. We absolutely love the look and functionality of this piece!

We recommend 2 people be available to carry and assemble this piece of furniture. The box was heavy and cumbersome. As with assembling any furiture that arrives in a flat box, paying careful attention to instructions is key. The nuts, bolts, nails,etc are very well packaged. It is absolutely imperative that you follow each step numbered and outlined, in turn, and do not attempt to skip steps (i.e assembling drawers first etc). In the instructions, it states you don't need a power drill, however we found it to be extremely helpful to have one using it. In comparison to the many shelves, cabinets, beds,etc we've assembled over the years, this one was more challenging and complex.

In summary, this is a very worthwhile piece of furniture, not a 'flimsy' tv cart/stand. It will take a while (a few hours) to assemble, but the organizational benefits and aesthetic appeal far outweighs those considerations. As a side note, most of our furniture in this room is 'espresso' or brown, but this cabinet still blends in seamlessly into decor/color. We have had it for about a month, and everytime we look at it, we are still excited about just how good it looks.
