Cerwin Vega! VE-28S Dual 8" Powered Subwoofer Review

I have been using CV products since my first pair of D5's in the early 80's. They are simply fantastic speakers. And, with qualifications, this subwoofer is no exception. The performance is amazing... when it works. The problem is with the amplifier. There is a flaw in the design and poor support from CV. I bought my September 2008. By Tannksgiving the amp had blown. I tried in vane to get a local shop listed as a service center to repair the amp and was ridiculed by the staff and offered a subwoofer for four times the price as a "real speaker." I was forced to ship the speaker (at my expense) back to CV in Florida and waited three months to get it back. Within six months the new amp blew out as well.
I've tried to contact CV multiple times and have been ignored so far. Finally, I found the following. Google "Help fixing Cerwin Vega ve28s" and follow the AudioKarma link. Read the entire thread. This was a known problem for CV with a solution posted no later than June 2007. And the repair I paid shipping charges and waited several months for was accomplished by replacing my bad amp with a "new" replacement amp that predated the posted fix and hadn't been updated.
I ordered the replacement parts online and so far everything works perfectly. Great amp... finally.

If you aren't willing to risk getting a subwoofer off the shelf that requires this fix and are also willing to perform it yourself I sadly recommend not getting this item.

But for this, I would give the subwoofer five stars. It actually deserves one star, but since I was able to fix it I gave it three.
