Bought this to use with a prosumer camcorder, Canon XH A1 and it supports it wonderfully. The head is smooth but a bit more dampening that I would like. The unit is very light wight which for the price is exceptional. I have a Gitzo 1530 and while it weighs less it cost me double what I have here and this tripod has a head and bag included.

The head is not a quick release type so a person will have to take more time in setup and adjusting it. This is for people who will keep a camera mounted for a duration of a shoot. The handles also lock the rotation of the head in place. If you twist the handles all the way in the head will lock in place so be keen to not do so in setup.. You can replace the head later and for the price I would suggest doing so to get something with a quick release plate.

The middle post is removable to save a few ounces of weight and it feels stable for that camera. Twist looks work well and secure.

I think if a person is looking for a tripod and not looking to invest much they should buy this one. But factor in a different head if you are using it for photography versus video.
