Niles Audio PHD42 Wall Mounted Speakers Review

At first I wasn't that impressed with these. They didn't image well and they seemed a bit lifeless. I thought about it a while and decided they were possibly not isolated from the wall which I thought was absorbing the life out of the higher range. I took the mounts off the wall and put small stick on rubber feet all about the metal mount then remounted to the wall. These speakers came alive immediately! Much more lively sound than I was expecting. I listen to many types of music mostly in flac format (some 96/24) and some blue ray movies and netflix. I didn't have to sacrifice sound quality that much for decent 2 channel playback. These need a sub to create full sound but I expected that. Overall a very good looking speaker that mounts out of the way of kids and still sounds excellent at a decent price. Recommended.

Update 9/3/13
The drivers have loosened up giving these speakers a much more prominent, but smooth, midrange. Liking them more and more as they break in. These definately sound better than just out of the box.

Used with HTPC with Xonar Essence ST and H6 daughter card and Harman Kardon signature 2.1 amplifier. BIC DV62CLRs center to be replace with another of these soon.
